Form Types - Insert vs Update Forms
FormFlow supports two main form types for different monday.com workflows. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right form type for your needs.
Insert Forms
Purpose: Add new items to your monday.com boards
How it works: External users submit data through the form β New items are automatically created in your board
Default Security: Forms are open and accessible to everyone. You can optionally enable a static password for additional security.
Best for: Lead generation, support tickets, project requests, event registrations, application forms

Update Forms
Purpose: Modify existing board items
How it works: Each item must have its own dedicated form link (required) β Users access the form via the itemβs unique link β Selected fields are updated with new data
Default Security: Forms are open and accessible to everyone. Each item must have its own dedicated form link (required) before users can access the form. You can optionally enable per-item passwords stored in monday.com board columns.
Automation: You can automate the generation of both links and passwords using monday.com automations.
Best for: Status updates, profile management, progress tracking, feedback collection, data corrections
