Save a monday.com Form Draft and Finish It Later
Published on August 29, 2026
Long forms lose people halfway through. A respondent gets three pages into a detailed intake form, gets pulled into a meeting, and closes the tab. If nothing was saved, they either start over or abandon the form entirely.
Both monday.com’s native WorkForms and FormFlow have a way to save progress and resume, but they work differently and neither preserves everything. Here is what each one actually does.
Quick answer
- WorkForms has a native Save as draft button, available on every monday.com plan. It uses the browser to remember progress on the same device, and it does not preserve uploaded files or signatures when the draft is resumed.
- FormFlow has local draft save for long forms — it restores in-progress answers in the browser before submit, with the same same-device limitation.
- Neither is authenticated, cross-device saved progress. If a respondent needs to start on one device and finish on another days later, the durable fix is an update form pointed at an existing item, not a browser draft.
- Install FormFlow to add local draft save to your longer forms.
How WorkForms’ Save as Draft Works
WorkForms shows a Save as draft button next to Submit once the setting is turned on in the form’s settings. Selecting it saves the submitter’s progress so they can return to the same form URL later, per monday.com’s own WorkForms settings and permissions documentation .
A few things to know before you rely on it:
- Same browser only. The draft resumes when the respondent reopens the form URL in the same browser that saved it — there is no email or link sent for resuming on a different device.
- Files and signatures do not carry over. If your form has a file upload or signature question, that field comes back empty when the draft resumes, and the respondent has to re-add it.
- Available on every plan. Save as draft is not gated behind Pro or Enterprise — any WorkForms form can turn it on.
How FormFlow’s Local Draft Save Works
FormFlow’s local draft setting does the same job for FormFlow forms: when enabled, respondents can save progress in the browser before final submit, which helps on long forms. It carries the same boundary WorkForms has — it is browser-based, not a substitute for server-side or authenticated saved progress.
To turn it on:
- Open your form in the FormFlow builder and go to Settings.
- Find Submission processing and local drafts.
- Enable Local draft.
- Publish, then test it yourself: start the form, close the tab, and reopen the form link in the same browser to confirm your answers are still there.

|---|---|---|
| Resumes on the same browser | Yes | Yes |
| Resumes on a different device | No | No |
| Preserves uploaded files | No | Depends on browser storage limits for the file itself; treat large uploads the same as WorkForms and expect to re-add them |
| Gated by monday.com plan | No — all plans | No — all FormFlow plans |

When Neither Draft Feature Is Enough
A browser draft only helps if the respondent returns on the same device before clearing their browser data. That is fine for someone finishing a form in the same sitting after a short interruption. It is not enough for a workflow where an employee starts an intake form on their laptop and needs to finish it on their phone the next day, or where a client needs to come back to the same submission a week later.
For that, the durable pattern is not a draft at all — it is an update form with a per-item link. Create the item first (from a short initial form, an automation, or manual entry), then send the respondent a link tied to that specific item. Because the in-progress data lives on the monday.com item itself rather than in browser storage, the respondent can open the same link from any device, any time, and pick up where they left off. Frequently Asked Questions
Does WorkForms’ Save as Draft work across devices?
No. It saves progress in the browser on the device where the respondent clicked Save as draft, and resumes when they reopen the same form URL in that same browser. There is no cross-device resume link.
Do I lose uploaded files if I save a WorkForms draft?
Yes. Files and signature fields are not preserved when a WorkForms draft is resumed, so respondents have to re-upload them. Warn respondents up front if your form includes those field types.
Can FormFlow save a draft that a respondent finishes on a different device tomorrow?
No. FormFlow’s local draft save keeps in-progress answers in the browser on the device where they were entered, the same as WorkForms’ draft feature. If you need a respondent to reliably resume days later or on a different device, use an update form pointed at an existing item instead — the data lives on the board item, not in browser storage.
Is Save as Draft available on every monday.com plan?
Yes. WorkForms’ Save as draft is not restricted by plan tier, unlike some WorkForms features such as response editing or custom branding.
