Schedule monday.com Forms to Open and Close by Time

Published on September 22, 2026

A close date sounds precise until you notice it has no clock attached. An RFP that’s due “by September 22” can mean 5pm in the submitter’s time zone, midnight in yours, or whatever moment the form platform happens to pick. If your form only accepts a date for its cutoff, every submitter downstream is guessing at the hour.

This covers what monday.com forms actually let you schedule down to the hour, and where a date-only close leaves a gap.

Quick answer

  • WorkForms’ close-date setting stops a form on a specific date, but the date is interpreted in UTC with no way to pick a time of day or match your account’s time zone.
  • FormFlow’s time limits use a full Start Date & Time and End Date & Time, so you can open a form at 9am and close it at 5pm the same day, or on any date.
  • A Custom Error Message on the FormFlow setting replaces the generic expired-form message, so people who hit an early or late submission know why.
  • Install FormFlow to set an exact open and close time on your next form.

Where a Date-Only Close Falls Short

WorkForms has a Close Date option, documented in monday.com’s Get started with WorkForms  support article: pick a date and the form stops accepting submissions once it arrives. There’s no field for the hour, and the community has been asking for one — an open feature request, Select time for Form “Schedule a close date” , points out that any close date runs on UTC with no way to align it to the account’s own time zone or pick a specific hour.

That gap matters most for anything with a real deadline attached to a specific moment, not just a day:

  • An RFP or grant application due “by 5pm” rather than “by the 22nd”
  • A flash promotion or limited-seat signup that should open at a launch hour, not at midnight UTC
  • A registration cutoff timed to a meeting or event start, not the calendar date around it

On WorkForms, working around this means padding the close date by a day and trusting people to submit early, or manually tracking the clock and closing the form by hand when the real deadline hits.

What FormFlow’s Time Limits Add

FormFlow’s time limits setting, documented in settings.mdx, takes the same idea — restrict when a form accepts submissions — and adds the hour:

  • Start Date & Time: the form is inactive until this moment, useful for a launch that should go live at a specific hour rather than the moment you publish it.
  • End Date & Time: the form stops accepting submissions at this exact moment, not just on this date.
  • Custom Error Message: replaces the default “The form has expired or is not yet active” text, so an early visitor and a late one can see different, specific copy if you want it.

Because both ends of the window take a time, not just a date, a form can open and close within the same day — a flash-sale intake that runs from 9am to noon, for instance — which a date-only close cannot express at all.

Setting Up a Timed Window

  1. Open the form in the FormFlow builder and go to Settings.
  2. Under Time limits, set the Start Date & Time to when the form should become active (leave it unset if the form should be open immediately).
  3. Set the End Date & Time to the exact deadline moment, in whatever time zone your monday.com account uses for date/time fields.
  4. Write a Custom Error Message that tells submitters what happened — for example, “Applications closed at 5pm ET on September 22” is more useful than the default message.
  5. Test the window by temporarily setting an End Date & Time a few minutes out and confirming the form blocks submissions once it passes.

Combine this with response limits when a deadline and a headcount cap both apply, the pattern covered in more detail for event registration forms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can WorkForms close a form at a specific hour instead of a whole day?

Not as of this writing. Its close-date setting takes a date only, runs on UTC, and has no time-zone or time-of-day control, per an open monday.com community feature request asking for exactly that.

Does FormFlow’s time limit also control when a form opens, not just when it closes?

Yes. The Start Date & Time field keeps the form inactive until that moment, separate from the End Date & Time that closes it.

What do submitters see if they arrive before the form opens or after it closes?

The Custom Error Message you set in form settings, or FormFlow’s default “The form has expired or is not yet active” text if you leave it blank.

Do I need a timed window for every form?

No. Most forms without a real deadline don’t need time limits at all — they’re most useful for RFPs, timed registrations, and campaigns where the exact hour matters, not for open-ended intake forms.
